Storm Dave brings disruptive and potentially damaging winds across Scotland, with the MET office issuing yellow and amber warnings through Saturday into Easter Sunday morning and across the weekend.  Peak gusts of 50-60 mph will be possible fairly widely, with 60-70 mph in more exposed areas. There is a slight chance of even stronger gusts of 80-90 mph in such exposed areas for a time. Please take care. and refer to our guidance on preparing for storms. We recommend woodland managers and owners read the Scottish Windblow Contingency Plan, while guidance is also available on managing storm damaged trees.

Valuing Forest Recreation Activities 2006: Final Phase 2 Report

Last updated :28 Oct 2024

Topic: Using woodlands

Sub topic: Forest industry

This research aims to estimate the local economic (income and employment) impacts of forest recreation, to estimate changes in forest visitors’ welfare associated with improvements to the recreational facilities provided in forests and to examine how the recreational values vary across different forest users and uses.

Summary

An assessment of the local economic impact of forest recreation was achieved using multiplier analysis. Three alternative economic valuation methodologies were also used in this research to examine the economic value of forest recreation. First, a travel cost count model was used to examine per-visit values for alternative groups of forest users. Next, contingent behaviour analysis and choice experiments were both used to estimate changes in visitors’ welfare associated with improvements to recreational facilities in forests.
