Storm Dave brings disruptive and potentially damaging winds across Scotland, with the MET office issuing yellow and amber warnings through Saturday into Easter Sunday morning and across the weekend.  Peak gusts of 50-60 mph will be possible fairly widely, with 60-70 mph in more exposed areas. There is a slight chance of even stronger gusts of 80-90 mph in such exposed areas for a time. Please take care. and refer to our guidance on preparing for storms. We recommend woodland managers and owners read the Scottish Windblow Contingency Plan, while guidance is also available on managing storm damaged trees.

Our guiding legislation

Our work is shaped and guided by primary and secondary legislation.

Primary legislation

Forestry and Land Management (Scotland) Act 2018 (legislation.gov.uk)

The Act establishes the framework for how Scottish Ministers manage forestry and land in Scotland.

It is supported by a statement of administrative arrangements for devolution of forestry, which was laid before the Scottish Parliament in March 2019.

Secondary legislation - regulations and standards

The UK Forestry Standard (2nd edition)

The Felling (Scotland) Regulations 2019 (legislation.gov.uk)

The Felling (Exemptions) (Scotland) Regulations 2019 (legislation.gov.uk)

The Forestry (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 (legislation.gov.uk)

Plant Health (Forestry) Order 2005 (legislation.gov.uk)
